THESYRE interview
Spring 2011

What do you think about forms of resistance against the negative impact of the modern world? Can it be realized only at internal/personal level, or as a more organized form of association of like-minded beings?

Any form of resistance against the modern deserves praise as the way society is these days is just sick. It’s a sick environment to be born, grow, get educated and to grow old in. Be it on an individual basis or a more collective effort, I think what is important is to spread the idea that it’s ok to be against the way things are. People are conditioned from an early age to think that a democratic and capitalistic system is what’s best for them and they often have a hard time expressing themselves when they feel or think something is wrong with it. I think that trough music, art, books and simply by discussing it with your friends and your peers you can actually open people’s eyes so they can themselves witness how sick this modern world is at its very core and how important it is to try to get involved in changing it. We need to get people to voice their discontent first and then, maybe later, we can try to regroup them and organize the opposition. Revolts are born in homes before they hit the streets.

Drugs, alcohol .. Source of inspiration, relaxation, sometimes detachment from the dull reality, searching for something superhuman or weakness and quick way to self-destruction?

Drugs, all of them, are there for people to escape their miserable lives. To think it helps to relax or to inspire is just additional proof that there’s something wrong here. If you need a drink to relax when you get back home then maybe there’s something wrong with what stresses you so much in the first place. If you need an altered state of consciousness to feel inspired then maybe you don’t have much to express in the first place. I can tell you about this as I used those to try to relax and get inspired. I gave up almost entirely on alcohol (apart from the very occasional social and dare I say useless drink) two years ago. I almost went into a psychosis due to a huge intake of hallucinogens many years ago. I went down to the bottom of where drugs and alcohol can bring you before collapsing and trust me, it’ all useless. Mere escapism. Facing reality on a daily basis and with a clear mind is all I am concerned with now.

Do you think that modern world has a chance to change it's course, so that it would lead it to advancement instead to destruction? Or it would be better to just burn everything?

There’s a chance we can change the course of the way things are right now. I am not sure we’ll do what’s necessary to take this chance and I am not even sure people care to change anyway. I truly doubt it can be done peacefully. When your back is against the wall and there’s no option to move in another direction, the only option is to try to break through the wall, right? This is where we’re at. The evolution of life on this planet proved us that things can and do change after massive destruction; We might be due for such a drastic change.

You have partcipated in a totalitarian black metal project - NKVD. Have you ever heard about the ideology of National Bolshevism and A. Dugin? How do you see historiographical and symbolic importance of the USSR? How do you see it's role in the solution of conflict with the materialistic liberal democratic West?

My contribution to this project was purely on an artistic basis as the whole concept was planned and designed by LF, the mind behind NKVD. I am of course aware of National Bolshevism but I wouldn’t dare too much in details over it as my knowledge of it is quite limited. One thing I know is that it has no role in a solution to the liberal and democratic West. The liberal and democratic West must be terminated at its core by the people who initiated it, not by a foreign force. If we cannot break away from it we’ll just collapse within it and once we’re down we’ll just leave the place to other systems.

Individualism. Is there such a phenomenon at all?

Individuals exists. Individualism as it is perceived today is more or less a radical form of egocentrism. People are not individuals, they are egoists thinking they have a life on their own in a society they’re by default a part of. People like to think they’re unique but if they are, it’s like everyone else.

For ordinary people organized religion is a book of philosophy, tradition and morality. For the rebels, rolling their own way, it's a festival of hypocrisy, deceit and parasitism. But man hardly escapes the thoughts on topics dealt with religions and beliefs. Is there any form of religion, worship, belief in the transcendence that you accept?

No. I do not accept religion in my life. I am not an antichristian or an atheist, I am antireligious. Religion is what keeps man from truly evolving and reaching higher grounds as a species. We like to think we’re modern and evolved because we live in a technological world but we’re nothing more than fools with expensive gadgets if we’re religious in any way. For as long as man will acknowledge and adhere to the concept(s) of any kind of religion, we’ll remain stuck in the past. Religion is a poison. If people need to worship something to justify their complexes of inferiority then they can worship the sun; At least this makes more sense.

You are a very creative person. How do you perceive your action as an artist? As an ideological mission, a presentation of your beliefs or a realization of our own desires and ambitions?

All three defines my creations. Art without ideology behind it is a loss of time and effort for me. It’s useless. Art is also propaganda. It’s a medium to spread ideas and to have people thinking about them. I do like to know the personality behind the art. It helps me appreciate it more. I have a really hard time appreciating the art of a known imbecile.

Are you close to anti-modernist ideas of Julius Evola, Rene Guenon, Nicolas Gomez Davila and other related traditionalists, conservatists and monarchists?

I know about them and their ideas. I am not close to them as I never felt I had to go by their words. I always used what I read of them (and many others) as a stepping stone for my own ideas. It’s ok to know how people perceive the world but what’s truly important is how you perceive it. Recently, I really liked the writings of Alain De Benoist.

As far as I can remember, you support social darwinism. Won't you agree that the social rivalry in modern word promotes attributes, which can't be tied to other definitions of strenght than those which focus on merely biological and adaptative aspects? If it so, then while we consider modern preferences, isn't it obvious that social darwinism in modern world can be supported only by those, who at least partially are infected with present dogmas?

Social Darwinism is just another way, in parts, to describe how I perceive the world. The only rivalry I see in the modern world is based around the economy, the social status and income. As you say, if people are rivals among themselves around those, then they must be infected by the very dogmas I despise. I’d prefer to say I am a social elitist than a darwinist.; I truly think that the stronger the individuals gathering together, the better the community will be. Society is sick because it tries to give everyone a chance at succeeding within its own dogmas. There’s nothing like equality in a sane society. We should all aim at being the best we can on as many fronts as we can and we should praise the individuals achieving this. The dogmas ruling our current society don’t encourage evolution, they promote stagnation.

How would you rate the use of artistic means overcrowded with pornography, abomination, noise and cruelty - depicting the worst, most cruel bottom of human nature? Do you see them as a wrench of modern man from a comfortable, illusive life ,showing what technology and social "progress" are just hiding - war, evil, diseases, obscure beasts in each one of us?

The overwhelming presence of pornography and cruelty in most art forms is a good indicator of where we’re at as societies. The beast in ourselves is not decadent by nature but in its behavior. We’re way too far into the process of actualizing our fantasies and this, way too often, only help mankind getting more degenerate. There is a huge difference in knowing about obscurity and manifesting this obscurity within us all. Our individualistic lifestyles allow us anonymity and some form of facelessness which opens the door to such over-manifestation of our inherent bestiality. Kids being born into all this will not see it as an exploration of a darker side of their nature but more as just another manifestation of their individuality. Thanks to the Internet, everything gets too “normal” these days and there’s no way back from it. Just because it’s available doesn’t mean its desirable, right? Perversion won over sophistication and this is not a sign of us entering modernity anytime soon.

Thesyre is characterized by a certain artistic asceticism - raw form, specific and clear message, not dressed in redundant content. As a propaganda poster from the interwar period. Do you treat your music as an art of propaganda?

From the beginning I perceived my works in Thesyre as being some form of propaganda. I am not writing those songs to entertain people and make sure they will headbang to them while drunk in a bar. I have ideas I want to express and pass unto others and the music serves as a medium to reach the target audience. I obviously enjoy the music itself on its own but to me the whole is inseparable. I have strong beliefs in minimalism and, as you mention it, as ascetic approach to my creations. Less is more in my book, most of the time.

Modern historians and political scientists are babbling about the end of history, the end of the war typical for the "old days". Meanwhile, world events show that we witness an exact opposite. Do you have any predictions about the near future? Apocalypse?

As much as I’d like a huge tsunami to drown us or earthquakes to rip the earth open, the reality of it makes me think that mankind will not disappear in a blast. We might experience a lot of disasters but we’ll manage to make our way through it. Like cockroaches, we will not go so easily. I cannot make predictions but I can make the wish to survive long enough to witness the debacle. We’re past due for a cleansing as a species. A little more struggle won’t be bad for mankind so it can appreciate its comfort a lot more and maybe think and act in its best interest instead of instant gratification and taking short-scale decisions. We’re spoiled parasites deserving a severe beating for our lack of respect toward the planet hosting us.

Suicide... weakness - a proof of cowardice, an escape for one who was born in bad times or a proof of great strength and determination?

Suicide proves nothing as the individual simply choose to off itself from reality. Nothing more. One more to feed the worms. I knew a few of people who committed suicide, some of them being close friends and I cannot act as the judge on what they did other than recognize and accept their act. If I wanted to commit suicide, whatever the reasons for it, I’d like people to think this way as well. Whatever it is because of cowardice or heroism, someone taking its own life is entitled to do so if he wants to. I still wonder why people are making such a fuss out of suicide as we’re surely not lacking humans on this planet. We feel bad towards it because we’re egoistical and remain there to suffer the loss, not because the act of dying is a bad thing in itself. We’ll all die, sometimes in really bad conditions, so sometimes making it quick could be an idea to consider when facing a huge wall you might not be able to climb. To put it radically, if you feel so unfit then you should better quit.

How do you relate to Eros-Thanatos topos in creative and procreative context?

I intimately relate to it. This is more or less what drove us where we are today. Sex and Death are major driving forces for life and as such can also be channeled into creative ones. Most classics of literature exploits the idea and, as such, life itself becomes a story when you see it with the right perspective. As Lemmy Kilmister once wrote it: “The answer to life's mystery is simple and direct: Sex and Death”. Most of my life has been centered around creativity and it remains a constant in my daily activities. The day I’ll die, my whole life will become my ultimate creation. No one might be able to read about it but in itself, it will be my accomplishment: What I fought, bled, worked and suffered for.

Do you perceive modern times as the transcendental Fall and End (Kali Yuga, Age of Iron) described in the myths of indo-european cultures?

You could have asked this question to someone else 100 years ago and he could have answered yes to it. I could answer the same right now but this would only be my perception of it. If a lot of people share the same perception it can give it more credibility but again it only remains a perception. I guess that the whole idea of the Kali Yuga is to remind us of life on earth being a cycle. We might be at the ending point of a cycle from the indications we get. The fact I feel like we’re in a downfall doesn’t make it a reality. It seems to me that if this managed to become a myth and still get referred to today, then all the people who ever thought about it happening in their era have been wrong ever since. We could be wrong thinking this is close to happen.

What do you think about ecoterrorists and anarcho-primitivists such like Ted Kaczynski and Pentti Linkola? Do you identify yourself with their views?

I’ve read both and I can claim I identify with most of their views. To me, they are not radicals but realists. They can think in a realistic way and the people unable to understand their point of view tag them eco-this or anarcho-that. It’s all common sense in my mind. I do think we’re overcrowding the planet and abusing its resources and there’s no doubt this will seal our downfall if we’re not making drastic changes to our lifestyles. I doubt we’ll follow their advices as a species as we’re lacking the perspective they have as individuals. Collectively our heads are still buried in the sand and only a few out there dare to look out. I also think that people deserves all the catastrophes and disasters ahead if they can’t respect their environment. They might not be worth in the first place.
